The RetinaCare Experience - Your Visit

A typical first visit with RetinaCare Consultants will last between two and three hours depending on your diagnosis and the type of specialized tests or procedures required.  Examination of the retina requires dilation of the pupils every time you visit.  Dilation may blur your vision and make it difficult for you to drive safely.  We recommend that you do not drive yourself on the day of your appointment.

After your arrival, an ophthalmic technician will review your medical history, test your vision, and prepare you for your doctor examination. After your pupils dilate, the doctor will perform a thorough retinal evaluation. Specialized testing may be performed to aid the doctor in making a diagnosis and formulating a treatment plan. These specialized tests, while performed at the time of your visit when possible, will add additional time to your visit. These tests may include Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) scanning, B-scan Ultrasonography, Fluorescein and ICG Angiography, and other retinal imaging.

Please bring the following items with you to each visit:

  • Your regular prescription glasses for vision testing and a pair of dark sunglasses.

  • A list of all current medications you are currently taking along with a brief medical history (download forms).  Please include any eye drops or supplements you are taking.

  • Your insurance cards and referral slips from referring doctors (if required by your plan).
