THOMAS J. FEDERICI, MD
is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, Fellow of the
American Academy of Ophthalmology, and member of the American Society of
Retina Specialists. He graduated magna cum laude from the Accelerated Biomedical
Program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and received his medical degree from
Albany Medical College. He completed his residency training in ophthalmology at
the Geisinger Medical Center and then completed advanced training in retina and
vitreous surgery as a Fellow at the Foundation for Retinal Research in New Orleans.
He served on the medical school faculties at the University of South Carolina and the
State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he pursued both clinical practice
and resident teaching. Dr. Federici’s work has been published in major medical
journals and textbooks and has been presented at medical conferences. He serves on the staff of Albany
Memorial Hospital and St. Peter's Hospital.
SHALOM J. KIEVAL, MD
is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, Fellow of the
American Academy of Ophthalmology, and member of the American Society of
Retina Specialists. He received his medical education at Harvard Medical School and
completed his internship, residency and specialty training in retina surgery at Harvard
and its affiliated hospitals,Massachusetts General Hospital, Massachusetts Eye and Ear
Infirmary, Brigham and Women's Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital. He served
on the faculties of Harvard Medical School and Boston University School of Medicine
where he was the Acting Director of the Retina Service. While in Boston, Dr. Kieval
served as surgical retina consultant at the Joslin Diabetes Center Beetham Eye Institute.
In 1987 he joined Albany Medical College as the Director of the Retina Service where he was actively involved in medical student and resident education and training. Dr. Kieval was a co-investigator in the landmark Age Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS). In 2006 Dr. Kieval was chosen by the Capital District Physicians' Health Care Plan to become a participant in the Executive MBA program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and in 2008 was awarded his MBA. He was also honored by CDPHP as one of five physicians inducted into the Physician's Academy in 2006. Currently he is the Chief of Ophthalmology at Albany Memorial Hospital and serves on the staff of St. Peter's Hospital.
